London Magazine Branch members offer our solidarity
London Magazine Branch members offer their solidarity and support to Fahad Shah, a Kashmiri journalist, who has been re-arrested on dubious charges by district police.
Shah is alleged to have shared ‘anti-national’ content and is being prosecuted for sedition and terrorism charges.
His arrest appears to be designed to intimidate him in his aim of producing original and challenging journalism in the region, and is the latest in a series of intimidatory acts against Kashmiri journalists.
Fahad Shah Fahad is the founding editor of The Kashmir Walla. He was awarded the prestigious 25th Human Rights Press Awards 2021 in explanatory feature writing for his coverage of Delhi communal violence in February 2020.
A petition is being circulated for his release, which members are encouraged to sign and circulate: https://www.change.org/p/release-kashmiri-journalist-fahad-shah-immediately.
The International Federation of Journalists has joined calls for the authorities to drop all charges and release Shah immediately. You can read their report here.
This branch unequivocally calls for his release.
