Workshop: Dealing with redundancy

20th October 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

NUJ London Magazine Branch – October 2020 meeting

Tuesday 20 October, 6.30pm by Zoom

With speaker Caroline Holmes, NUJ training programme lead

With the Government drawing down on the furlough scheme, and the ongoing economic downturn, job losses are now being seen across all business sectors.

It’s daunting to face redundancy at any time, but the union can provide vital support and it’s important to be prepared if redundancies are proposed at your workplace.

This meeting workshop will help inform you about how to deal with workplace redundancies to make sure your employer follows due process, and give you the knowledge and confidence to get the best outcomes for yourself and other NUJ members.

NUJ training programme lead Caroline Holmes will take us through what redundancy involves, what employers’ obligations are and how to secure as fair a redundancy deal as possible.

Branch Motion to support George Viner Memorial Fund

This branch notes:

The proposal from last month’s successful meeting about BLM to support The George Viner Memorial Fund.

We further note:

The George Viner Memorial Fund was set up by the National Union of Journalists to address the shortfall of BAME voices in the media, and to broaden the diversity of journalists working in the British and Irish media.

Since its inception in 1986 the fund has helped more than 150 Black and ethnic minority students obtain the training they need to get a job in journalism.

To carry out this vital work the Trust relies on the continuing support of NUJ members, patrons and donations from those who believe a multicultural society should have a multicultural press.

This branch resolves:

To make a £500 donation to The George Viner Memorial Fund.
